MS from San Marco

The Convent of San Marco in Florence houses numerous collections of priceless artworks, including a fine collection of illuminated manuscripts. This Madonna of Mercy is one example:

Maybe it’s just my imagination, but, weirdly, the feminine figure seems to bear a striking resemblance to one V. Putin.

Go figure.

I visited San Marco twice this past month (I’d neglected to go there on previous trips–big mistake. Huge). I plan to add another post or two focusing on the place. I really wish more people knew about or chose to visit the convent. It’s less than a mile from Piazza del Duomo, entry is 4 Euros, and it’s truly a magnificent place to spend two or so hours on a hot Florentine day.
