Pauses: in the Piazza and Ponte

A dérive in Rome–in the early morning —all cool air, soft light, and gleaming marble–baroque churches, monumental fountains, and ancient ruins. Your steps and the sites pull you out of yourself. Where are you going? You’ll know when you get there.

My most recent 20 Streets post, on one street in Florence, is live. I am currently editing an upcoming piece on wandering down around the Tiber. From that particular walk: a (nearly) deserted Piazza Navona and a view from Ponte Umberto I.
