Just an intro to give an overview of this coming project. I’m very excited about this, as Blackfriars is my favorite place to stay in London. Sure, it’s fairly equidistant to my main sites of interest, but it’s also chock full of history and curiosities that seem never-ending.
The history of Blackfriars is rich, varied, and often wild. It includes the River Fleet, Bridewell Palace (and hospital and prison), Blackfriars Priory, a royal divorce, theatres (with an appearance by Shakespeare!), Blackfriars Bridge(s), Roman shipwrecks, medieval fortresses, castles, criminal sanctuaries, rail stations, lots of mud, and more. I hope you enjoy this project.
