Critics have long lauded Ms. Gershow’s short fiction, so it should be unsurprising that The Local News has already garnered praise from Publisher’s Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Library Journal.

Writing in The New York Times, Janet Maslin draws attention to the novel’s “urgency and heft.” She notes, in particular, the work’s “deftly heartbreaking coda.” Marie Claire calls The Local News “a darkly humorous tale of loss.”
