Florence’s Cimitero degli inglesi, the “English Cemetery,” is so-called as many of its occupants were British and American. Here’s a short video I compiled about this lovely spot just outside of the city’s historic center:
Numerous luminaries are buried here, including Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Walter Savage Landor, and Arthur Hugh Clough.
It’s believed that the cemetery influenced the painter Arnold Böcklin when he created Die Toteninsel (The Isle of the Dead).
The cemetery is a stunning place to wander about for a bit of coolness and peace on a busy summer’s day.
The Swiss Evangelical Reformed Church founded the cemetery in 1827.
