Two poems. Two decidedly distinct moods.
I’ve tagged both poems as examples of “modernism.” Hulme’s is an Imagist experiment, and, while it’s true that Hopkins isn’t a proper “modernist” poet, the publication of his works in 1918 had an incredible effect on poets of the age. Proto-modernist?

A touch of cold in the Autumn night —
I walked abroad,
And saw the ruddy moon lean over a hedge
Like a red-faced farmer.
I did not stop to speak, but nodded,
And round about were the wistful stars
With white faces like town children.
