Bleak House’s Veiled Performances

Women, veils, and public performance in Bleak House.

lady-dedlockBleak House remains, easily, one of my favorite novels. It’s certainly my favorite Dickens work. The last time I read it, the book gave rise to a fun research topic: how do various characters engage with women wearing veils?
